Themes & iconography

Mystical and mythical art in a modern setting with respect for tradition. I delve into iconography and story, so every detail is correct.

  • Biblical scenes: the dove from Noah’s Ark, the beheading of Holofernes.
  • Not only saints but also occult beings, mythical figures: Devil, Greek/Roman gods, Celtic figures.
  • Medieval works: charters, illustrated books or pages, heraldry

Symbols and attributes are thoughtful, from lily, herbs to dragon or horse. The composition remains contemporary: clean lines in fineliner, shadow work in pencil and/or ink, accents in gold paint for the sacred/mythical glow. Together we choose the right iconographic language, completely handmade without a computer.

I am flexible and professional. We coordinate with the pastor, curator, board or work group. Clear planning, clear agreements.

Process: research to finish

Outline & source study

We start with your question and sources. Bible texts, existing icons, archival material: I do a compact source study. You get quick sketches with variations in framing and symbolism. We choose direction together and lay out iconographic “must-haves.”

Detail & symbolism

Then comes the finer work. Layers in pencil & ink build depth, fineliners draw the story sharply. Gold paint puts light accents on sanctity or rhythm. Every attribute gets attention: hands, fabrics, pleating, inscriptions. You receive interim updates. This keeps the work true to your intention.

Finishing & presentation

My works are made on museum-quality paper. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and possibly some care tips. Packaging is sturdy and shipping insured, including overseas.

Technique: pencil & ink, fineliners, gold paint. Completely by hand, without computer.

Support: drawing paperor bristol, museum-quality paper, lightfast

Format: from intimate A4 to large statement work. Diptych/triptych also possible.

Price, planning & rights

Craft takes time. You get a fair price based on size, level of detail, number of figures, research and any gold paint. The schedule is clearly coordinated during the proposal phase. For larger projects, we create a phasing with milestones and feedback moments. Indicative lead time? Depending on complexity and availability – we poke realistically, no empty promises.
